02.02.19: Mapuche comunero (community activist) Francisco Lipiman Calpan was arrested on January 27th, 2019. Francisco was originally arrested in 2015 on charges of carrying a weapon, possession of ammunition and a drum of fuel, whilst allegedly attempting to attack a hydroelectric plant.
After a lengthy judicial process, Francisco remained on conditional bail while awaiting finalization of his prison sentence of 3 years and one day (for carrying a weapon) plus 541 days (for possession of ammunition). Once the sentence was finalized, Francisco decided to flee from Chilean justice, remaining a fugitive until now.
