Greek consulate occupied in solidarity with hunger striker Dimitris Koufondinas (Berlin, Germany, February 24, 2021)

Berlin: Greek consulate occupied in solidarity with hunger striker Dimitris Koufondinas

At midday on 24 February 2021, a group of comrades entered the Greek consulate on Mohrenstraße, occupied it and blocked the services, thus breaking the normal course of a working day in this “state within a state”. A banner was unfurled from a window and flyers were dropped on the heads of unsuspecting passers-by, lost in their grey routine in one of the most chic, bourgeois and productive areas of Berlin. In this case, the much-vaunted and defended borders backfired, effectively preventing German cops from entering ‘Greek territory’ until official permission was given by the consul. This delayed the evacuation considerably. Ah, their beloved bureaucracy!

At the same time, another group of comrades started a camp under the walls of the consulate.

After almost 4 hours, the dozens and dozens of cops underneath were allowed to enter and throw out the comrades.

This action at the consulate is the last of several direct actions in Germany in solidarity with Dimitris and his hunger strike, such as the burning of a van of the Thyssenkrupp company, which supplies and supports the production of Greek submarines, or the burning of a truck of the Hertz company, which supplies vehicles to the Greek police (especially to the OPKE unit).

In Frankfurt an inscription was left on the facade of the Greek consulate.

Other messages on the wall and banners appeared in all cities.

In Berlin several demonstrations took place under the consulate and the Greek embassy. On the 27th of February there will also be a march from Kottbusser Tor back to the consulate on Mohrenstrasse.

Today, 25 February 2021, revolutionary comrade Dimitris Koufondinas is on his 49th day of hunger strike. Since 16 February, he has been in intensive care, and since 22 February, he has asked the doctors to stop giving him water by drip. The situation is extremely critical, his health is very bad and the physical damage is irreversible.

The Greek state has decided to kill Dimitris. If he dies, these murderers will have to take political and material responsibility for everything that happens afterwards.

Because solidarity is international!

For Dimitris.
