Received by Mpalothia on 13.06.18:
On November 2017, Codziennik Feministyczny (Feminist Journal) posted an article “Papierowi Feminiści” (Paper Feminists) in which they disclosed the vile deeds of Jakub Dymek, “leftist” publicist, self-proclaimed feminist and also a rapist and a misogynist. Nevertheless, it didn’t have any big effect on his career – he still organizes meetings about his new book, he still receives invitations to TV and to fashionable debates.
Yesterday RODM (Regional Center for the International Debate) in Katowice, Poland organized a debate about Big Data on which Jakub Dymek was invited. We, as a group of 15 anarchists, feminists, and queer activists, decided this has to stop and rapists without any show of remorse can not go unpunished. Thus, we’ve organized the blockade of the debate. We had to listen to the typical bullshit of the organizators, privileged male rape apologists “He’s not guilty, until the jury says so!”, “You are the perpetrators of violence, not him!” “You are violating our rights!” (cause apparently organizing a debate with a rapist is now a human right). We were called “Monty-Pythonesque”, queers that participated in the blockade were misgendered multiple times by the organisers despite numerous reminders. Petros Tovmasayan, one of the organizers (and also a member of the right-wing, neoliberal party Porozumienie and a conservative think-tank Klub Jagielloński) was constantly threatening us with a lawsuit and stated that “judging by our methods of protest, Dymek is not guilty for sure” and that “he will invite Dymek two more times just to annoy us”. Police was called to defend the rapist; they obviously “followed the orders” and violently removed us from the meeting. One of the activists was filming the police violence, when Tovmasayan decided to steal his phone – it was quickly reclaimed and the whole situation was filmed.
Even though our blockade was removed by the police, we consider it as successful, because most of the people who attended the debate left, maybe because us being right, maybe because they were annoyed at the prolonging of the debate. The discussion continued, but it was only the personnel of the Center who listened, besides one or two attendees.
This action was the second blockade of the event with Jakub Dymek – the previous one took place in Warsaw, where a meeting about his new book was also blocked.
The fight against patriarchy and the rape culture continues.
