INVITATION FOR HELSINKI WITHOUT NAZIS DEMONSTRATION

This Independence Day, on the 6th of December, there will be a record number of far-right events in Helsinki. At 3:30 PM a march will be held by the Nordic Resistance Movement (NRM) whose Finnish branch assaulted Jimi Karttunen this September with fatal consequences. Prior to this, the organization has been involved in several other assaults, one of which was a pepper spray attack on the Pride march in 2010.

Not even three months have passed since the death of Jimi Karttunen and the Nazis are coming to Helsinki to spread their fascist message and threaten the people of the city. The NRM supports the creation of a Nordic Nazi state and the annexing of Finland to Sweden. On the Independence Day they will be joined in their march by Nazis from Sweden. This is the first time the NRM is marching openly under their own banners, trying to bring together not just their core membership but a wider front of “patriotic” actors.

After their own march the NRM will join the 612.fi torch-lit march which is organized by, according to their own definition, “a broad front of patriotic people”. In addition to the NRM the march will be joined by Timo Hännikäinen, an author infamous for his misogynist writings, and Teemu Lahtinen, a Finns Party councilman for Espoo, the former chair of nationalist organization Suomen Sisu and a former active of the far-right organization IKL (Patriotic People’s Movement). The former leader of the Finnish branch of the NRM Esa Holappa has said that the torch-lit march was organized for the first time in 2014 from an initiative by the NRM and that they were involved in providing security for the march.

Join us on the 6th of December to show that neither the NRM nor any other far-right organization or event is welcome to Helsinki. We will meet at Asema-aukio (in front of the western entrance to the central railway station) at 2:30 PM and tentatively move from there in the direction of the Senate Square to make it clear to the Nazis what we think about racism and fascism.

Our demonstration doesn’t intend to create a confrontation with the police, but to oppose the Nazis with a nonviolent demonstration.

For a Helsinki without Nazis – now and forever!

Note: The time and place of the demonstration might still change, so follow the announcements on our website (ilmannatseja.com) and on Facebook in case of changes.

The demonstration is organised by the antifascist network Varisverkosto, the antiauthoritarian group A-ryhmä and the Left Youth of Helsinki (Helsingin Vasemmistonuoret).
