Chile: “Fuck Nations, Squat The World”, 7 years since the death of compañero Mauricio Morales

In the context of discussions and proposals concerning squats and anti-authoritarian spaces, we share some reflections, experiences and proposals within the framework of the “Fuck Nations, Squat The World!” campaign proposed by the compas in Greece, seeking to spread our critique and self-criticism in the struggle against power, seven years since the death of anarchist compañero Mauricio Morales.

Over the years we have been among the many compañeros who developed an important part of their political maturity participating in various activities in autonomous and anarchist / anti-authoritarian spaces. Squatted spaces such as La Krota, Sacco y Vanzetty, La Idea and other autonomous social centers were key for several years in the development, intensification and spread of insurrectionary ideas and praxis within the local context of the city of Santiago. Some of us who took part in some of the instances of meeting, discussion and agitation that developed in these spaces can remember such experiences as if they were yesterday, having fresh memories of a context of insurrectionary effervescence that did not go unnoticed by the power and its society.

Over the course of time the power saw a threat to social peace in such spaces, because inside them was developing a potential for revolt that coexisted with incendiary / explosive attacks and anarchic street agitation. Since the death of compañero Mauricio Morales in May 2009, repression has increased against anti-authoritarian squats and autonomous centers. The collective answer was brave, defending spaces and even confronting the police who were eager to invade them, as was the case of the attempted raid on the Sacco y Vanzetty squat after the death of compañero Mauricio Morales.

One year later, in 2010, several of these spaces would be raided once more and closed by power, arresting more than 10 compañeros and accusing them of participating in incendiary / explosive attacks. It was called “Caso Bombas” (Bombs Case). It has been noted in other analyses and recollections that the collective response to such attacks by power in 2010 was not as combative as it could have been and that many people preferred to ‘retreat’ and ‘reinvent themselves’ ideologically. Fear invaded many but did not paralyze us all, for some of us decided to continue openly spreading insurrection during these times of adversity. The history speaks for itself.

Joint proposals based upon affinity, informal organization and the permanent offensive are some of the pillars that were forged – in our case – mostly in the heat of discussions and meetings between compañeros in autonomous spaces. And while the circulation of such ideas ceased to have the same force and presence they had prior to the “Caso Bombas” arrests, they still remain structural elements of our life in struggle, without retreating even one step towards repentence or the relativization of our principles. Reinforcing our convictions – rather than separating them from our everyday lives – have been the solid rocks in every storm that allow us to continue fighting with wounds and scars but still intact and on the warpath against power.

Today there are still squats and autonomous spaces. The diagnosis is a little similar to the one expressed by the compas in Greece: the majority of them – at least in Santiago – are spaces of accomodation and alternative entertainment. However, other spaces continue to exist and spread anarchic projects in affinity with the struggle against power, seeking to be places of meeting and informal debate in the joint struggle for total liberation.

We hope that such projects become even more visible and stronger, but it is also important that the anarchic tension against authority expands everywhere.

For this to happen we need to activate and promote individual initiatives and projects of diffusion and antiauthoritarian action; moving beyond the cronyism and activist immediacy, intensifying a polymorphous action that fills the streets with propaganda to incite conflict with power and to once again transform squats and meeting spaces into insurgent strongholds of antiauthoritarian interaction and generation of debates integral to the struggle, organization of rallies and street interventions that indomitably disrupt the normal funtioning of citizen routine and hit the centers of dominion with all possible means.

Only the activation of these initiatives will bring back into position the tendency of anarchic insurrection as a real threat to the plans of power, as a star of sharpened spikes that disperses chaos throughout the metropoles of the civilized world, always pointing towards Earth, animal and human liberation.

To break the conformity and comfort of a rebellion lived as youth fashion. Let’s spread anarchy. Let’s be dangerous to power…

WITH MAURICIO MORALES IN OUR INSURGENT MEMORY…TO PROMOTE, MULTIPLY AND SHARPEN THE SPACES, PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES IN THE WAR AGAINST POWER!

Sin Banderas Ni Fronteras, anti-authoritarian cell of agitation.
